In informal British English, someone who is half-cut has had too much alcohol. They are drunk, or clearly getting there — walking a bit loosely, talking a bit loudly. It does not mean they have been cut with a knife. You hear it about nights out, pubs, and parties. It is casual and a little teasing, not a doctor’s word, and not a kind word if the drinking is a real problem. Though actually, Americans almost never say this; they are more likely to say , drunk, or wasted. “Half-” here is not a careful measurement. Nobody is checking whether you are exactly fifty percent drunk.
「half-cut」是英式口語，指一個人喝了太多酒，已經醉了，或看起來快醉了，例如走路有點晃、說話大聲了一點。它多半用在夜遊、酒吧和派對的情境，口氣隨意，帶點戲謔，不是醫學用語。字面的「割」與它無關，這裡的「half」也不是精確的數字，沒人會去算到底是不是百分之五十醉。
美國人幾乎不用這個說法，多半說微醺、醉了，或爛醉。如果喝酒已經是真正的問題，這個字就不太客氣了。
