Gusty weather has wind that does not blow in one steady stream. It comes in strong sudden pushes — a slap of air, a short quiet, then another. Flags snap. Umbrellas turn inside out. Weather reports use it all the time: a gusty evening, gusty winds along the coast. It is a word about outdoor air, not about feelings, and not about doing something with gusto, even though the spellings sit close together.
