A guppy is a tiny freshwater fish, often kept in a home tank. The males are the bright ones — spots, stripes, a big fan of tail — and the females are plainer and a little larger. They are easy to keep and they have babies very readily, so they are a common first fish for children. People sometimes stretch guppy for any small, colourful tank fish, but strictly it is this one kind. The English name comes from a person, Robert Guppy; another scientist named the fish after him, though the fish already had a scientific name. The everyday English word stuck anyway.
孔雀魚
組成Named after the biologist Robert J. L. Guppy. The scientific name Girardinus guppii was given by mistake — the fish was already Poecilia reticulata — but the common English name remained.
