Guff is talk that is silly, empty, or not true. If someone is giving you guff, they are feeding you lines that sound like reasons but do not hold up — excuses, boasts, smooth talk. It is informal, a little sharp, and much more common in speech than in careful writing. You might say that's a load of guff or don't give me that guff. It is not a swear word, but it is not polite praise either. Though actually older speakers use it more; younger people might just say nonsense or rubbish.
