1. 1

Gucci is an Italian company that makes very expensive fashionable clothes. It is known especially for leather goods — bags, shoes, belts — and for a double-G mark. The house is named after its founder, Guccio Gucci. Saying something is Gucci, in the brand sense, means it comes from that company and costs a lot. Though actually, young people, especially in American English, also stretch the name: “That’s Gucci” can mean “that’s fine / that’s cool,” the way a famous brand can become a casual word for “good”. In class, start with the company; the slang is extra.
