Gubbins is a friendly British word for a mess of small things when you cannot, or do not want to, name them one by one. The wires inside a machine, the bits at the bottom of a drawer, the extra pieces that come with a — all of that can be “the gubbins”. It is informal, a little , and you will hear it in the UK much more than in the US. It looks plural, and people often treat it that way, though actually it behaves like a lump word for “stuff”. You would not put it in a serious report.
