A guava is a tropical fruit. English picture books often show one with pink flesh and a lot of small hard seeds, and that is one real kind. Though actually the inside can be pink or white, and the skin is usually green or yellow. It smells strong and sweet. In Taiwan the guava you buy at a night market is often green outside, white and inside, cut into sticks, and eaten with spicy plum powder — still the same fruit, just a different everyday habit. You also meet guava as juice or sweets.
