Grumpiness is the mood of being bad-tempered and easily — the noun, the thing itself. You can talk about someone’s grumpiness this morning, or a child’s grumpiness when they need a nap. It is informal and slightly soft: we often treat grumpiness as passing and a bit funny, not as a serious character fault. Though actually, if it never lifts, people may start to call that person “a grump” as if it were their usual self.
