A Grammy is a famous American prize for recorded music. The US Recording Academy (the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) gives Grammys for singing, songwriting, producing, and other work on records they judge as especially strong that year. People say she won a Grammy or they took home three Grammys; the night of the show is often just the Grammys. The little statue is shaped like an old , and the name comes from that machine. It sits in the same family of big night-time prizes as the Oscar (film) and the Emmy (television), though actually winning one of those does not mean you will win another — they belong to different businesses. Capital G: it is a proper name.
