Informal English for a thick, slightly sticky substance — not quite a liquid, not quite a solid. Think of glue gone wrong, children's , or something unpleasant leaking from a pipe. It often sounds a bit messy or ugly, not like a nice cream. You can also use it as a verb: to goop something is to spread that sticky stuff on it. The word is more American than British, and it is casual talk, not science class. It probably comes from the 1930s as a twist on , the same kind of sticky mess; gloop and are cousin-words for similar lumps. Though actually, people also know Goop as a US lifestyle brand — that is only a company name, not this meaning.
