Good-hearted means kind and generous — a person whose nature is to care and to give. It is about the heart they have, not about a single kind act, and not about being clever or good at a skill. The tone is warm and a little old-fashioned, always praise. You will also see it written as one word, goodhearted. It comes from Middle English gode herted. Kind-hearted is a close sister; hard-hearted and cold-hearted are the opposites built the same way.
