    A good-for-nothing person is lazy and useless — they do not work, they do not help, they are good for nothing, as the words say straight out. You can put it before a noun (a good-for-nothing son) or use it as a name for the person (he's a good-for-nothing). It is a word, a little old-fashioned, and quite ; might throw it more than young people. It judges character and effort, not bad luck or illness.
