Gondwanaland is the name for a very large land that existed about 200 million years ago, before it broke apart. Antarctica, Australia, Africa, South America, and India were all joined in it then; they later drifted into the places they occupy now. Scientists named it after Gondwana, a region in India where they found matching old rocks and fossils, and they added -land so you would not mix the ancient supercontinent with that Indian region. Though actually, many today just say Gondwana for the supercontinent, so Gondwanaland can sound a little older or more textbook. It is not the same as , which was the even earlier land when almost all the continents were one; after split, Gondwanaland was the southern piece and the northern one.
