A gobbler is a male turkey. People call him that because of the loud gobble-gobble sound he makes, especially in spring when he puffs up and shows off. Farmers, hunters, and people who raise birds use this word; in a shop you would just say turkey. A female turkey is a hen, not a gobbler. The word feels farm-like and informal — it is not a scientific name.
