A goatee is a small beard that grows only on the chin, often trimmed to a point, with the cheeks left clean. The name comes from the little of hair many goats have on their chins. Some men wear a thin strip; some wear a fuller patch. If a is there too, people may still loosely say goatee, though a barber would rather name the whole shape. It is an ordinary fashion word, slightly old-fashioned, not rude and not technical. The ending -ee here only makes the word feel small; it does not mean “a person who is …” the way it does in employee.
