The go-to person for a problem is the one everybody asks, because they are very good at that thing. If the computer breaks, she is the go-to person. If you need a cake, he is the go-to baker. It sits before a noun: a go-to expert. You may also hear it as a noun: she is my go-to for tax questions. Though actually, English now uses go-to for things as well as people — a go-to recipe, a go-to restaurant — the one you always pick. The first sense to learn is still the person. Informal, common in American English, and quite new as a set word: people stuck go and to together, from “the one you go to.” It is not the everyday verb in “I go to school.”
