A go-getter is a person who pushes hard for what they want. They have a lot of energy, they do not wait for someone to hand them a chance, and people often say they will “get somewhere” — meaning they will do well in work or in life. You hear this a lot in American English, especially about jobs: a boss may like a go-getter. It is usually a compliment. Though actually, some people say it with a little roll of the eyes, as if this person never sits still and cares a bit too much about winning. It is informal. You would not put it in a very stiff letter. The describing word for the same idea is go-getting.
組成From go and get — the idea of “go and get it,” go after what you want. The -er makes it a person who does that.
