A go-between is a person who carries messages from one side to the other because those two people or groups cannot meet, or do not want to. They may be angry, they may be in a fight, they may just need space. You send the go-between instead of going yourself. You meet the word in serious places — two countries talking through someone else, two families after a quarrel — and in smaller ones: you ask a friend to tell someone you like them, because you are too shy. It is a little old-fashioned in everyday talk, but news and stories still use it. Though actually, a go-between is not always a . They may only carry the words, not try to make the two sides friends. In business English you also hear ; that one feels more about buying and selling. A go-between feels more about people and talk.
go-between 是替兩方傳話的人，因為兩邊不能碰面，或是不想直接碰面。不管是吵架、生氣，還是只是需要一點空間，都可以派一個 go-between 去，自己不必親自出面。大到兩個國家透過第三者溝通，小到請朋友幫忙轉告心意，都可以這樣用。這個字在日常口語裡有點老派，但新聞和故事還是常見。它不一定是和事佬，有時只是把話帶到。商業上比較常說 middleman，那是偏向買賣的仲介；go-between 比較偏向人和話語的那一種。
