A glade is a small open space inside a wood or forest, where the trees step back and light can come down. Grass or low plants often grow there. It is not a field a farmer cut — it is a pocket of openness in the trees, and the word feels a little story-like, the kind you meet in books and poems more than on a city street. English has had it since Middle English, when glade could also mean a gleam of light or a bright patch; it may sit near old words for “shining” or “bright”, but the origin is not certain, so we should not pretend we know the first spark.
