    Ginormous means extremely large — bigger than “big,” and said with a grin. It is a playful, informal word, the kind you use with friends, in ads, or when you want to sound a bit over the top: a ginormous pizza, a ginormous spider, a ginormous mistake. It is not for a careful essay or a formal letter. It started as 1940s military slang and still feels rather than scientific.
