The secret state police of Nazi Germany. They could arrest people, use terror, and work outside ordinary law; the name still carries that history. In English it is a proper name, usually with a capital G. Though actually, people sometimes throw it at any harsh official, strict teacher, or nosy security team. That stretch is common in angry talk, but it is ugly and historically sloppy — it borrows the weight of a real killing machine for a much smaller complaint. For , keep it for the Nazi police unless you are quoting someone who is being rhetorical on purpose.
