Geophysical is the adjective for things that belong to geophysics: the study of how parts of the Earth move, and the forces behind that — rocks and the ground under us, the oceans, and also the weather when it is treated as a physical system of the planet. A geophysical survey looks at those forces with instruments, not with a map of countries. Scientists say geophysical data, geophysical methods, a geophysical model. It is a university and research word, not a kitchen-table one. Though actually everyday English sometimes squeezes weather and oceans into this word, while a strict scientist may keep 'solid-earth' work (quakes, magnets, the inside of the planet) a little apart from ocean science and climate science. In loose use, if it is about the Earth's body and its forces, geophysical will often cover it.
