Genera is simply the plural of 'genus', a word scientists use to group similar living things together when naming animals and plants. You've actually already met this system, even if the word 'genus' felt unfamiliar — when a scientific name has two Latin-looking words, like 'Homo sapiens' or 'Canis lupus', the first word is the genus. You'll only really meet 'genera' in science class or nature documentaries, never in casual conversation.
