A gazelle is a slim, fast animal with long legs, a light body, and often large, dark, beautiful eyes. books sometimes call it a small deer. Though actually it belongs with antelopes, not with true deer: it has lasting horns, not the branching ones a deer grows and later drops. Gazelles live in open, dry country in Africa and parts of Asia, and they are famous for the way they run and spring, as if the ground were easy. People also stretch the word: a dancer or a slim runner may be like a gazelle, meaning , not that they are the animal. The animal sense is the main one.
