1. 1

A gasman is a person whose job is to come to your house about the gas — to read the meter (how much gas you have used), or to the and the heater. It is a British word, and it feels a little old now. It says “man” even when the worker is a woman. Today people more often say gas engineer, meter reader, or someone from the gas company. The gas here is the fuel that comes through for cooking and heating, not petrol. In Taiwan the closest everyday picture is the person from the 瓦斯行 or the 天然氣 company who comes to look at the meter, change a tank, or fix a leak.
