Gas-guzzling describes a car, engine or vehicle that uses a lot of petrol — the adjective twin of . You put it in front of a noun: a gas-guzzling SUV, gas-guzzling engines. The tone is the same informal American scolding-joke: the machine gulps gasoline. News and everyday talk use it when fuel prices sting, or when someone wants to contrast a thirsty old car with a smaller or hybrid one. It is not a kind of cooking-gas machine; the gas is petrol.
