1. 1

To garrotte someone is to kill them by tightening a wire, cord, or metal collar around the neck until they cannot breathe. The word is also used for the wire or collar itself, and for an old Spanish way of executing people with a metal band. It is a grim, precise word — crime reports, history, and thrillers use it, not ordinary talk about a fight. British spelling keeps two t’s (garrotte); American spelling often has one (garrote). Either way, it is not a word to throw around lightly, and it is not the same as hanging from a rope.

    勒殺(用鐵絲或金屬環勒住脖子;不是一般說的絞刑/吊死)
