    Gambian is not the country. The country is (or The ). Gambian is the word for a person from that country, and also the adjective: Gambian food, a Gambian passport, Gambian English. Like Canadian from Canada, we add -an to the place name. You can say ‘She is Gambian’ or ‘She is a Gambian’; both are natural. It takes a capital G because it comes from a country name.

組成Gambia + -an. The suffix -an turns a place name into ‘of that place’ or ‘a person from there’. Same building for both the adjective and the noun.
