Galactic means "of a galaxy" — a huge family of stars. Our own is the Milky Way, so galactic often means "to do with our galaxy, or with galaxies in general": the galactic centre, galactic dust, a galactic map. The older Greek idea behind it is "milky," because the Milky Way looks like a spill of milk across the night sky. People also stretch it in ads and jokes to mean "enormous" — a galactic mess, galactic amounts of money. That stretch is informal and a bit breathless; the careful meaning is still "about a galaxy."
