Funky first described a style of music (funk) — , danceable, kind of cool and different. From there it grew to describe anything with that same 'unusual, a bit edgy, in a good way' feeling — funky clothes, a funky little café. Casually, 'funky' can also mean a strange or bad smell, but the music/style meaning is the main one.
