FTM is short for female-to-male. It names a person who was recorded as female at birth and who lives as a man — a trans man. Some people have surgery or take hormones; many do not. Though actually, the old line that says ‘someone who has had an operation’ is too narrow: the letters name the direction of the change, not one medical step. You will see FTM, FtM, or ftm in community writing, clinics, and forms. It is personal, sensitive language. Use the name and the words the person asks for; in everyday talk many people now just say trans man. This is not Ft. (a fort) and not a job title.
跨男(台灣社群也常直接寫 FTM / FtM;「女變男」較像舊報紙用語,有人會覺得生硬)
組成female-to-male 的縮寫。
