The FTC is a US government body. The full name is the Federal Trade Commission. Its job is to keep business fair for customers: it watches ads that lie, companies that crush smaller rivals, and big mergers (when two companies join). If a merger would hurt or other firms, the FTC can try to stop it. This is American, formal, news-and-law language — you hear it when a huge deal is in the papers. Taiwan has a close idea in the Fair Trade Commission (公平會), but that is a different office in a different country. The UK has similar work too (now mainly the CMA). Students often mix the FTC with the FDA (food and medicine) or the FCC (TV, radio, phones). Those are other US bodies with other jobs.
