A fruiterer is a person who sells fruit, usually from a shop. It is a British word, and it has grown old: you still see it painted over a market stall or in a Victorian novel, but today most people would say greengrocer (fruit and vegetables) or simply fruit seller. A greengrocer’s shop often sells both; a fruiterer, by the name, is the fruit specialist. It is not a farmer, and in modern use it is not someone who only grows fruit — though older English sometimes mixed those jobs together. Formal, dated, British.
