Frogspawn is a frog’s eggs, still in the water, before they become tadpoles. You see it in ponds in spring: a clear, wobbly jelly with little black dots inside. Each black dot is one egg. British English uses this word a lot, especially with children and nature lessons; American English more often just says frog eggs. It is an everyday nature word, not a scientist’s Latin name. Fish have spawn too; frogspawn is only the frog kind. Though actually, people sometimes point at the little swimming babies and say frogspawn — that is a slip. The jelly with dots is the spawn; the swimming things that come out of it are tadpoles.
