A fridge-freezer is one tall kitchen machine with two jobs in one body: a fridge (the cool part that keeps food fresh for days) and a freezer (the much colder part that makes food ice-hard for months). In British English this is the ordinary name for the big box in the kitchen. The freezer may sit on top or below, or the two parts may stand side by side. In American English people more often say refrigerator, even when it has a freezer inside. Shops also write fridge freezer with no hyphen; it is the same thing. It is a home word, not a technical one. People stretch “fridge” to mean the whole machine, but a fridge-freezer is the honest name when both parts are there.
