A freeholder is the owner of freehold land or property — the person for whom that building or piece of land is theirs outright, not leased for a set time. Estate agents and lawyers use the word; it is not a warm kitchen-table word. In older British talk, a freeholder could also mean someone whose land gave them a public voice, but the meaning you need is simply the owner of the freehold. If a block of flats is leasehold, the freeholder may be a person or a company sitting above all the leaseholders. Though actually, being a freeholder is not the same as living there; some freeholders own the ground and collect payments, and never sleep under that roof.
