Fowl is an older or more formal word for birds that people keep or hunt for meat and eggs - chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys are all fowl. You will see it in phrases like "wild fowl" (birds hunted in the countryside), but in daily talk most people just say "chicken", "duck", or "bird".
