A forecaster is someone whose job is to say what is likely to happen next. The picture meet first is the weather forecaster on TV — sun, rain, typhoon. The same job-word is used for people who try to see the future of money, jobs, or votes: an economic forecaster, a market forecaster. It is a neutral, modern word, not poetic. A forecaster does not claim to know the future for sure; they say what the signs point to. Though actually, in everyday talk people often just say the weather person, but forecaster is the tidy job title.
