  1. 1足球的口語說法。在澳洲，footy 多半指澳式足球（AFL），不一定是 soccer。

    Footy is a friendly, spoken nickname for football — matey, not essay English. The messy truth is that “football” is not one sport: in Britain, footy is usually soccer (a kickabout, “coming to the footy?”). In Australia, footy very often means Australian rules (AFL), and in some states rugby league; soccer is often called soccer there, not footy. So the same joke-word points at different games. You would not put it in a formal report unless you were quoting someone. (There is a rare older adjective footy meaning cheap or poor-quality, with a different history; that is not this everyday sports word.)

組成A short, casual form of football: the foot of football plus a friendly -y. (Other, rare ‘shoddy / paltry’ senses have been linked with Dutch vochtig and French foutu; those are not the sports nickname.)
