A pale pinkish-beige colour — used of tights, plasters, bandages, underwear, make-up and dolls, meaning 'the colour that is meant to disappear against skin'. Here is the honest part your dictionary may not say: the skin it means is white skin. The word was invented at a time when people writing catalogues assumed everybody's skin was pale, so one single pink-beige got called 'flesh colour' as if flesh only came in one shade. For everyone else, a 'flesh-coloured' plaster does not disappear at all. Because of this, careful speakers and most companies now avoid the word and say 'nude', 'skin-tone' or, better, name the actual shade. You will still meet it in older books, in art writing about how a painter mixed his colours, and from older speakers who mean nothing at all by it — but it is a word to recognise more than a word to use.
