A flagon is a large container for drink, especially beer or wine. It is bigger than a cup, and it often has a handle, sometimes a lid. In old stories and in churches you meet flagons of wine; in a pub, a flagon of cider or beer is a large serving, not a small glass. Though actually, most people today would just say bottle, , or pitcher. Flagon sounds a bit old, a bit story-book, or a bit "special drink". You would not ask for a flagon of water in a modern café. It names the container, not the drink itself.

組成From Middle English flagon, from Old French flacon / flascon (modern French flacon, a small bottle), from Latin flasco, a bottle, from a Frankish word *flaska meaning bottle or flask. That Germanic word is also where English flask comes from. People used to plait or wrap such bottles in straw. It is not flag + on.
