A fixation is when you cannot stop thinking about or doing one particular thing, often more than is healthy — like a fixation on being perfect, or a fixation on one person. Doctors also use it in a very different, physical sense: 'external fixation' means using metal pins or a frame to hold a broken bone in place while it heals.
