A firelighter is a small block of stuff that catches fire very easily. You put it under coal or wood, light it with a match, and it burns long enough and hot enough to wake the real fire. This is a British household word; in the UK you buy a box of them for the fireplace or the barbecue. They are not cigarette lighters, and they are not people. Though actually many are soaked in a strong-smelling oil, so you should not treat them like toys. In American English people are more likely to say fire starter. In Taiwan you may never need the English word, because few homes still light a coal fire — but if you meet it in a story, that is the little helper under the coals.
