Finger-pointing is blaming other people when something has gone wrong, instead of trying to fix the problem. After a mistake at work or in the news, people say there has been a lot of finger-pointing. You can also use it as a verb: they kept finger-pointing all afternoon. Though actually, nobody has to point a real finger; it is the blaming that counts. The word feels informal and a little tired: the speaker usually wishes people would stop and look at the work. Pointing at the board in class is not finger-pointing.
