A financier is someone who controls or lends large sums of money — not a regular bank clerk, and not everyone who works in a bank. The word points at a person who funds companies, big deals, or projects, or who steers a lot of capital. It is a formal, slightly old-world label; news and business writing use it more than everyday talk. You can be a financier of something (the person whose money makes that thing possible). It came into English from French and kept the French spelling. There is also a rare verb, to financier, with the same origin, but almost nobody uses it in ordinary English.
