A filmstrip is a long piece of photographic film with still pictures in a row, one frame after another — not a moving movie. A teacher, or a small machine, showed them one at a time, often with a click to the next picture, and sometimes a tape that beeped when it was time to move on. Schools used filmstrips a lot in the last century, before video and computers. You may still meet the word in older books, in museums, or when people remember classrooms. Though actually, it is easy to hear “film” and think “cinema.” A filmstrip does not move. It is closer to a slideshow, only the pictures live on a strip of film, in a fixed order you cannot shuffle.
