Filial is a rather formal word for things that belong to the bond between a child and a parent — the love, the duty, the way a son or daughter behaves toward the people who raised them. You will meet it most in filial piety, the old idea (very strong in Taiwan) that children should honour and look after their parents. You can also hear filial duty or filial love. People do not use it in chat; it lives in essays, speeches, and talk about family values. Though actually it does not, by itself, mean "being a good child". It only means "of a son or daughter". The extra moral weight is what culture hangs on it. It has nothing to do with a computer file.
組成From Latin fīliālis: fīlius (son) / fīlia (daughter) + -ālis (-al, "relating to"). English took it through Middle English filial.
