    Fiber is the American spelling of fibre — not a different word. It is a thin thread, or something made of those threads. Cotton cloth is full of them; so is a muscle, and so is a nerve. Factories also make fiber from plastic and weave it into clothes. In food, fiber (often “dietary fiber”) is the part of plants your body does not really break down — apple skin, beans, brown bread — and it helps the stomach do its job. People also say someone has “moral fiber” when they mean that person does not fold when things get hard; that phrase is not about food or cloth. And “optical fiber” (or just “fiber” in internet ads) is a glass thread that carries light. British books keep the re: fibre. In Taiwan you will see both, because textbooks often lean British while American food labels and tech ads do not.
