A fest is an informal gathering where a lot of people do one fun thing together — drink beer, sing, eat, watch films, and so on. In English it almost always rides on the back of another word: beerfest, songfest, film fest, food fest. On its own it sounds casual; you would not put it in a very serious report. English borrowed it from German Fest, meaning a feast, festival, or party. The same Latin feast-word also gave English feast, festival, festivity, fete, and , but fest in English has a more playful, “let’s all pile in” feel than a formal festival. A film festival may have red carpets and judges; a film fest sounds more like people on sofas with snacks. Though actually, companies now put “fest” on posters to sound friendly, so the line between fest and festival is messier than textbooks like.
組成Borrowed from German Fest (“feast, festival, party”), from Latin festum. That Latin word also sits behind English feast and festival.
