A ferryboat is a ferry: a boat that carries people, and often cars, back and forth across a stretch of water — a river, a harbour, or a short sea crossing. The compound just names the boat itself. In most sentences people simply say ferry; ferryboat is a little more old-fashioned or careful, used when you want to make it clear you mean the vessel, not the service or the trip. It is an ordinary, concrete word, not poetic and not technical.
